Many health researchers have written on the physiological and psychological benefits of expressive and reflective writing.
My workshops offer an overview of this evidence-based research (from the U.S., U.K. and New Zealand), while also empowering you (including step-by-step tips) to set up a regular writing practice for your daily wellness.
As a published author with 18 years' experience in healthcare communications, I love to bring my training (HIPAA and PHI) and education (Columbia University; University of Cape Town) in narrative medicine to providers and caregivers.
I can design a workshop for your group. Or here are some sample topics:
Good Writing. Good Health – Journaling, micro essays and other wellness writing - Includes short illustrative readings, podcasts and videos. There’s a short review of the evidence-based research on the link between writing and wellness. We include some opportunities for participant writing and tips for getting published.
Writing The Personal Essay - Learn the craft of penning a personal essay that tells your first-person story and also makes a universal point about our shared humanity. Primarily a craft or ‘how-to’ workshop, this also offers a chance for readings, discussion, and peer review.
Writing for Advocacy - How to write opinion essays, Op-Eds and other advocacy narratives for healthcare, immigrant rights and social service clinicians and executive leaders of small non-profits.
Truth, lies and ethics in writing our personal or family stories - How much do we reveal about ourselves? How much do we withhold? How much can we ever write about our family, friends or ourselves? This workshop will attempt to answer these questions and empower writers to apply interesting and ethical nonfiction.
"Thank you for the writing advice,"

"The presenters were knowledgeable in their topic, and I enjoyed this presentation. I also learned a lot of about journaling as part of a social worker's self-care."

“If you ever get a chance to meet Ms. Greaney or attend one of her workshops, I highly recommend it. She is a delight to listen to ... very clear and demanding speaker who holds your attention, makes you laugh, and says a lot of very true things that make you think, and keep thinking ... the overall impression is of kindness, hilarity, and respect.”
— Participant, Unicorn Writers Conference, CT
“I thought you led a fabulous group and got us all going into areas we didn’t even suspect we’d travel to in the course of a day and a half. I do appreciate a really good workshop leader, and you are among the very best”
— Student, The Cape Cod Writers Center
